Altona Yacht Club Training

Overview

Altona Yacht Club Training is an accredited Discover Sailing Centre offering training for all age levels. Your Discover Sailing journey starts here as you learn the fundamental skills of sailing and are introduced to the fun of dinghy sailing in a safe and supportive environment. Boats and life jackets are supplied for students in the Tackers and Start Sailing programs. Junior and Interrmediate sailing program participants are to provide their own boats/equipment or being actively progressing to obtaining them. Qualified instructors give on-shore theory and on-water training.

Courses

Training courses are held twice a year in 8 week blocks:

• October to December
• February to April

Training for juniors may also occur on school holidays.

• Tackers: ages 8-11
• Start Sailing 1 & 2: adults and children over 12
• Junior Squad: Those who've completed Tackers 2, ideally ages 9 onwards.
• Intermediate Squad : Those who have completed Sailing 1&2 or Junior Squad

Training Fees

Fees for the 2023-2024 season are as follows. Fees apply for Credit Card Payment (fee-free bank deposit is also available).

Tackers 1                      $300        - subsequent children from same family 25% discount)

Tackers  2                     $300        - subsequent children from same family 25% discount

                                                       - includes complimentary club  membership for half season for those progressing to Junior Squad

Start Sailing                  $380        - includes complimentary club membership for half season to progress to intermediate squad or participate in club afternoon racing

Junior Squad                $120        - required to hire or provide own boat, plus have youth member $232, or family membership $584)

Intermediate Squad    $120        - required to hire or provide own boat, plus have, senior ($490) youth ($232) or family ($584) membership

Boat Storage Fees

Please note: storage space is limited, especially in the bottom rack. For availability, please contact the Club Captain before making payment. Boat storage is subject to certain terms, available here. By storing your boat at the Club you agree to these terms.

Working With Children

All people over 18 years old involved with the training program must submit a current Working with Children Check (WWCC) issued by the Victorian Department of Justice. More information here:  Working With Children - Altona Yacht Club
