RESCUE BOAT PROCEDURE FOR A CAPSIZE

The rescue boat procedure when capzise happens will be 3 questions when within talking distance
1. Are you alright?
2. Are you able to right boat
3. do you need assistance.
If answer to the first 2 questions is yes “rescue” boat will stand by untill you recover boat. Then make sure it is in a sailable state.
If answer to third question is yes a swimmer (if availabe) will be dispatched. If nobody from rescue is available boat will back on windward side and throw a rope this then should be rapped with one turn around opposite chain plate and in the case of two person boat one person to stand on centreboard holding rope and the other crew member positioned on leeward side of boat as boat comes up the crew on opposite should be able to climb into boat. This is ideal senario does not allways happen.
If unable to be sailed boat will betowed to shore once righted or if other boats over will be anchored and brought back to shore at a later time with crew put on rescue boat.to possibly assist with aid in recovery of other boats.
In the case of foiling moth will be hauled onto rescue boat and not towed then taken directly to shore.
I hope i”m not talking to myself but to members of yacht club if able to all members should be aware of these procedures.

VALE – Allan Harrison

Allan Harrison passed away on Sunday 3rd of January 2016.  All in the yacht club would know Allan as a kind and generous gentleman always ready for a chat and quick to serve a cool cleansing ale from the bar.  Quality individuals such as Allan are rarer than we would like to think.  Accordingly, Allan’s death is not only a loss to our club but also a loss to that small cohort of good men.  Our sympathies and thoughts go out to Gail and family.

Allan’s funeral will be held this Friday the 8th of January at 3pm at Nelson Brothers Funeral Directors 81 Kororoit Creek Rd Williamstown
