Boat Storage

Boat Storage

AYC has inside storage on three levels and limited outside mast-up storage. The upper storage areas are easily accessible with a boat lifter. Storage space is limited therefore availability should be investigated before paying fees and all issues relating to storage should be discussed with the Club Captain (click here to contact). All boats stored at the club should have their registration number and boat name clearly visible and this information provided to the club via the Boat Safety Declaration form.

Boat Storage Terms

  1. Altona Yacht Club Inc ("the Club") agrees to allow the member to store the boat and fittings on the Club premises upon payment of the annual storage fee. Upon cessation of membership, this agreement shall also lapse and the boat shall be removed from the Club immediately.
  2. The Club Captain will allocate each boat to a particular space. The allocation of spaces is solely within the Club Captain's discretion and may change at any time. No member is entitled to, or guaranteed, a particular space and the allocation of a particular space does not form part of this agreement.
  3. The storage fee is payable on 30 September each year, or the time the boat is first stored at the Club. The storage fee is not refundable and not transferable in the event that the boat is sold or removed from the Club premises before the end of the financial year, unless such refund or transfer is approved by the Club Captain.
  4. Availability of boat storage is limited, especially for lower racks and outside mast-up storage. Priority is given to members who regularly participate in Club racing. If a boat is not frequently used, the Club may move it to a different space (or a different tier) without notice to the member.
  5. The member gives the Club permission to move their boat for any reason. If a boat is locked up, the member will leave a key or code with the Club to allow the Club to move the boat; otherwise, the Club may use any means necessary to remove any locks or chains without notice or compensation.
  6. If the boat remains at the Club after 30 September in any year, then the member is deemed to have agreed to pay the annual membership and storage fees for the boat for the upcoming year and agrees to be bound by these terms and conditions.
  7. The Club is not liable for any loss or damage to the boat or fittings while stored at the Club, including loss or damage caused or exacerbated while the boat is being moved for any reason. The boat is stored entirely at the owner's own risk and owners are encouraged to maintain appropriate insurance cover.
  8. Should the storage fee remain unpaid for a period of 2 months, the Club may sell or otherwise dispose of the boat and fittings and deduct from the proceeds any amount owing to the Club for storage fees and any costs associated with removal, storage and sale of the boat and fittings. The mode of sale or disposal shall be fully at the Club's discretion, except that the Club must notify the member in writing at least 14 days before it sells or disposes of the boat.
  9. Payment of storage fees entitles the member to occupy only one storage space. All equipment, including foils, trailers, and trolleys must be contained in the space allocated (except that masts may be stored on the mast racks and sails in the sail storage area). Sails in the sail storage area must be clearly labelled with the owner's name and boat name.
  10. Any trailers or dollies left on club premises and not in the allocated space will be removed and left outside the Club premises and the Club will not be liable for any loss or damage as a result.
  11. The Club may amend the terms of this agreement from time to time, and the amended terms will become effective once published on the Club website.
